## Biography

Flemish painter. One of the most accomplished seventeenth-century Flemish still-life painters, Christiaen Luyckx remains overshadowed by some of his contemporaries. Many of his works have long passed under the names of other artists, such as Jan Davidsz. de Heem. A native of Antwerp, Luyckx studied under Philippe de Marlier \(c. 1600-c. 1668\) from 1639 to 1642. The artist made a brief journey to Lille in 1644, but was back in Antwerp by 1645, when he married and became master in the Guild of Saint Luke. In a document of 1646, Luyckx is designated having been &#39;in the service of His Majesty the King of Spain&#39;. There is no further archival mention of the artist after the baptism of a son in 1653.
