# AUDUBON, John James [View the canonical artist record]() ## Artist - Lifespan: 1785–1851 - Profession: graphic artist - School: American ## Biography American naturalist and traveller of French extraction, who studied in Paris under Jacques-Louis David, before going to America in 1803. His most famous works are the illustrations for The Birds of America \(1827-38\), the original drawings for which are in New York \(Historical Society\), and the Quadrupeds of North America \(1845-48\).
