## Biography

French painter. Michel Bouillon was born into an artistic family in the north of France, at Ere near Tournai. He was received as a Freeman of his Guild there in 1638. His father seems to have been the Jean Bouillon who was the first teacher of Philippe de Champaigne. Michel Bouillon's work consists entirely of still-lifes, which show the strong influence of the Flemish masters of the early-17th century. His later style is more free and lighter in tonality. His son Charles was also a still-life painter whose work moves into the decorative style of the 18th century.
