# Tree of Jesse [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [GOTHIC GLASS PAINTER, English]() - Date: 1201-1250 - Technique: Stained glass window ## Commentary The picture shows the overall view of the west window depicting the Tree of Jesse. After the disastrous fire at Canterbury Cathedral in 1174, the cathedral was rebuilt. In the rebuilt church the windows at ground level were given narrative cycles and the clerestory windows enthroned figures of the ancestors of Christ.
