# Lamentation over Christ [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [ANGELICO, Fra]() - Date: 1401-1450 - Technique: Tempera and gold on panel, 109 x 166 cm ## Commentary The Lamentation was made for the Dominican confraternity's oratory, the façade of which was painted with scenes from the Passion of Christ. It portrayed the loving compassion of the Virgin, Mary Magdalene, and other saints as they mourned the death of Jesus and prepared him for the grave.
