# Ceiling centre [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [GIOVANNI DA SAN GIOVANNI]() - Date: 1601-1650 - Technique: Fresco ## Commentary The picture shows the central scene on the ceiling: Allegory of the Medici-della Rovere Marriage. It was decided to decorate the rooms on the ground floor to mark the marriage of the young Ferdinando de' Medici, which formally took place in August 1634 but was not celebrated and consummated until 1637, owing to the youth of his bride, Vittoria della Rovere, who was raised at the Florentine court.
