# Cardinal Raffaele Sansoni Riario [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [BREGNO, Andrea]() - Date: 1451-1500 - Technique: Marble, formerly partially gilded, height 57 cm ## Commentary Cardinal Raffaele Sansoni Riario c. 1478 Marble, formerly partially gilded, height 57 cm Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston Andrea Bregno produced two busts of Cardinal Riario \(1460-1521\), the builder of the Palazzo della Cancellaria in Rome and the patron of the young Michelangelo. The terracotta version, now in Berlin, was a preparatory for the marble version, now in Boston.
