## Commentary

Self-Portrait c. 1745 Oil on canvas, 55 x 46 cm Akademie der bildenden Künste, Vienna Martin van Meytens settled in Vienna in 1730. Two years later he was appointed Kammermaler and became the principal portrait painter at the imperial Court. His self-portrait from c. 1745 depicts the successful court painter of the imperial family. In the physiognomy and style of self-presentation it corresponds with the self-portrait from c. 1741 in Budapest.
