## Commentary

Blessed Alessandro Sauli c. 1668 Marble Church of Santa Maria Assunta di Carignano, Genoa The colossal statue, together with another, representing St Sebastian, was intended to be placed below the dome of the church. Alessandro Sauli \(1534-1593\) was the Supreme General of the Barnabite Order. He was canonized due to his conduct during the peste of 1580.
