# Great Gloss on the Psalms [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [MINIATURIST, French]() - Date: 1151-1200 - Technique: Manuscript \(Ms. 258\) ## Commentary Great Gloss on the Psalms c. 1180 Manuscript \(Ms. 258\) The Schøyen Collection, Oslo Peter Lombard \(French Pierre Lombard, Latin Petrus Lombardus, c. 1100-1160\) was a scholastic theologian and bishop of Paris whose Four Books of Sentences \(Sententiarum libri IV\) was the standard theological text of the Middle Ages. He taught in Paris c. 1134-1158. This manuscript of Peter Lombard's Great Gloss on the Psalms was probably illuminated in Paris, c. 1200. The Bible text is written in red ink with the commentary in black.
