## Commentary

De Momper painted a large number hay harvest scenes of varying sizes throughout the 1610s and 1620s. Almost all follow the same compositional arrangement, with a hay or corn field set on gently rising ground above a valley floor. They are often populated by the same figures. The small staffage in the present painting are attributed to Jan Brueghel the Elder.
