# A Lion Hunting Two Deer [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [SAVERY, Roelandt]() - Date: 1601-1650 - Technique: Oil on panel, diameter 63 cm ## Commentary Savery was in the service of Emperor Rudolph II in Prague from around 1603-1613. While there, he made numerous detailed studies of animals and birds in the menageries and hunting grounds of Rudolph and continued to use these as reference for later paintings.
