## Commentary

Of Le Pautre&#39; methods, more light is thrown by the volume of engravings which he published in 1652. In these he presented to the public the designs for country and town houses which he had not been able to execute. He had found no patrons bold enough to undertake them. The vast scale and fantastic qualities of his designs are illustrated by his design for a château.
