# Psalter of Saint Louis [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [MINIATURIST, French]() - Date: 1251-1300 - Technique: Manuscript \(Ms. lat. 10525\), 210 x 145 mm ## Commentary Psalter of Saint Louis 1260s Manuscript \(Ms. lat. 10525\), 210 x 145 mm Bibliothèque Nationale, Paris The Psalter of St Louis has 78 full-page miniatures on heavy parchment, narrating biblical events prior to King David, from Cain and Abel to the coronation of Saul. It was intended for the king's own private prayer in the palace chapel, Sainte-Chapelle, built in Paris in 1243-48. The miniature on folio 9v depicts the dramatic climax of the story of Lot and his wife. The picture shows two angels going about the business of destruction the city of Sodom.
