## Commentary

Ascension of Christ c. 1690 Oil on canvas Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts, Brussels This painting is a bozzetto for the ceiling painting in Santi Filippo e Giacomo in Genoa. The ceiling was destroyed in 1942. Unmistakably, this celestial world of swirling clouds and figures were patterned after &lt;a onclick=&#34;return OpenOther\(&#39;/html/c/correggi/frescoes/duomo.html&#39;\)&#34; href=&#34;/html/c/correggi/frescoes/duomo.html&#34;&gt;Correggio&#39;s cupola&lt;/a&gt; painting in Parma, which was carefully studied by seventeenth-century Genovese painters.
