## Commentary

The seven porcelain &#34;paintings&#34; gracing the pedestal table-top crafted by Martin Carlin \(c. 1730-1785\) for Madame du Barry are held in place with bronze beadings. The Turkish-style central picture is after a painting by Carle Vanloo, The Concert of the Grand Sultan. The six plaques surrounding it feature painted gallant scenes, five of which after works by Watteau.
