## Commentary

This unusual Crucifixion demonstrates the powerful influence of Neapolitan painting on the young González Velázquez when he first arrived in Italy. God the Almighty Father looks down upon his Son&#39;s crucifixion, St Michael slays the devil personified by a dragon, while a Saint prays before the Cross.
