## Commentary

The design of this decorative bowl in lapis lazuli was jointly conceived by the stonecutter and the goldsmith at the outset. The shell-shaped bowl, whose walls show the fish-like webbed legs of the dragon, has an enamelled gold support mounted on the back portion, enveloping the bowl towards the front with two large, outspread wings. Arching above it is the gristly stone neck of the horned dragon with sparkling ruby-eyes and wide-open mouth. On its back is a large mask in enamelled gold with a ferocious expression.
