- Technique: Chalcedony, set in enamelled gold, height 12 cm, diameter 32 cm

## Commentary

The thinly ground wall, which in translucence ideally accentuates the beauty of the brown-violet-white colouring of the chalcedony, fans out in ten spiraled passes. In each narrow retraction between the passes there is an external canted rod, decorated with a small leaf motif at its juncture with the border of the upper lip. In the centre of the swirl within the basin sits a round medallion with a grotesque masque, a representation of the head of Medusa. The monolith basin was given a decorative yet conservative support by an unknown Milanese goldsmith who also collaborated with Miseroni on additional works.
