# Assumption of the Virgin [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [MANTEGNA, Andrea]() - Date: 1451-1500 - Technique: Fresco ## Commentary The Assumption of the Virgin, for the most part the work by Mantegna, is on the altar wall of the Ovetari Chapel. Surrounded by angels, Mary floats towards God the Father, who was originally sitting above her in an oval picture.
