## Commentary

Commissioned by Charles the Bold and executed in encrusted enamel technique, the reliquary shows the duke holding a finger relic of St Lambert and presented by St George, whose posture resembles the same saint depicted 35 years earlier in Jan van Eyck&#39;s &lt;A onclick=&#34;return OpenOther\(&#39;/html/e/eyck\_van/jan/21paele/21paele.html&#39;\)&#34; HREF=&#34;/html/e/eyck\_van/jan/21paele/21paele.html&#34;&gt;painting of Canon van der Paele.&lt;/A&gt;
