## Commentary

It was Constable who described the watercolours of John Robert Cozens, an early influence on Turner too, as &#39;all poetry&#39;. His works such as his Entrance to the Valley of the Grande Chartreuse in Dauphiné show unparalleled intensity of feeling, economy of form and subtlety of palette.
