## Commentary

No. 6 Scenes from the Life of Joachim: 6. Meeting at the Golden Gate \(detail\) 1304-06 Fresco Cappella Scrovegni \(Arena Chapel\), Padua The two elderly spouses recognize one another and their good fortune in their Meeting at the Golden Gate. It is the final picture of the upper register and, at the same time, an allusion to an event which is yet to come: the Birth of the Virgin Mary.
