Regarding the identity of the sitter, it was assumed that she is <a onclick="return OpenOther\('/html/r/raphael/5roma/5/06forna.html'\)" href="/html/r/raphael/5roma/5/06forna.html">La Fornarina,</a> Margherita Luti, a Sienese woman whom Raphael loved.
