## Commentary

This unknown master, whose real identity is still hotly debated, not only took up the inheritance of Sassetta but was also capable of original, independent interpretations of fourteenth-century models from Siena, adding further elements from the Florentine style of Domenico Veneziano, Fra Angelico, and Paolo Uccello.
