# View of the façade [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [DOMÈNECH I MONTANER, Lluís]() - Date: 1851-1900 - Technique: Photo ## Commentary The Palau de la Música Catalana \(Palace of Catalan Music\) is a concert hall in Barcelona. Designed in the Catalan modernista style by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, it was built between 1905 and 1908 for the Orfeó Català, a choral society founded in 1891 that was a leading force in the Catalan cultural movement that came to be known as the Renaixença \(Catalan Rebirth\). It was inaugurated on 9 February 1908. The Palau de la Música, with its polychromy and ornamentation and its appropriate structural solutions achieved on a difficult site, is his most outstanding work.
