## Commentary

Cadieux, called &#34;Homme canon,&#34; performed as a comic singer at the Petit Casino as well as at the Eldorado and the Ambassadeurs. He was famous for his agility, which was in no way impeded by his round belly. He reached the height of his career around 1893 when this portrait of him was painted. In the same year Lautrec also designed a poster for him.
