# Hair comb [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [VELDE, Henry van de]() - Date: 1851-1900 - Technique: Tortoise-shell, gold, width 8 cm ## Commentary After Henry van de Velde's move to Weimar in 1902 to become an artistic adviser to the Duke of Saxe-Weimar and then professor of the new school of applied arts, a number of his designs were executed by the court jewellers, Theodor Müller. This comb was produced in Weimar by the factory of Theodor Müller. It has a gold openwork mount riveted to a tortoise-shell comb; the mount is hand-cut and pierced. In addition to the artist's monogram, the comb bears the maker's mark 'TM' conjoined for Theodor Müller. It was intended for export, suggested by the appearance of the French design registration mark.
