# Study of Two Men in Discussion [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [RAFFAELLO Sanzio]() - Date: 1501-1550 - Technique: Silverpoint, 278 x 200 mm ## Commentary Raphael continued to practice his silverpoint technique in Rome during the preparation of the Stanze; he obviously found it useful in defining the forms he was striving to develop as his style became increasingly monumental. Two drawings for the central section of the School of Athens show the artist exploring both anatomical and compositional problems with silverpoint. One sheet shows a study of the <A onclick="return OpenOther\('/html/r/raphael/4stanze/1segnatu/1/athens01.html'\)" HREF="/html/r/raphael/4stanze/1segnatu/1/athens01.html">complicated positions of the two men</A> who gesticulate towards Diogenes as they discuss his unwonted behaviour.
