## Commentary

Portrait of the Grand Prince Ferdinando de&#39; Medici c. 1700 Ivory relief carving, 8,5 x 6,5 cm Alberto Bruschi Collection, Grassina Philipp Sengher of German origin, together with Balthasar Permoser, was the official ivory turner at the Medici court. He introduced the Grand Prince himself to the art of ivory turning, training him in the time-consuming work.
