Annabel Lee c. 1881 Brush, grey and black ink over black chalk, 302 x 409 mm Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen "Annabel Lee" is the last complete poem composed by American author Edgar Allan Poe in 1849. Like many of Poe's poems, it explores the theme of the death of a beautiful woman. There has been debate over who, if anyone, was the inspiration for "Annabel Lee".
