# Map of Paris \(details\) [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [BRETEZ, Louis]() - Date: 1701-1750 - Technique: Engraving ## Commentary Nearly 150 maps of Paris were published in the eighteenth century. The most famous and most pleasant to use is the one prepared by Louis Bretez in 1734-38 for Michel-Étienne Turgot, provost of the merchants of Paris, with its convenient, if somewhat artificial, bird's-eye views.
