## Commentary

The Duomo \(Cattedrale dei Santi Mariano e Giacomo\) is the main Catholic church in Gubbio. In spite of some controversy, it seems as it stands to be a wholly fourteenth-century building. The virtual engulfing of the left flank by the hillside probably explains the placing of the bell tower immediately above the choir. The photo shows the bell tower above the choir.
