# Diptych of Jean de Cellier [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [MEMLING, Hans]() - Date: 1451-1500 - Technique: Oil on wood, 25 x 15 cm \(each\) ## Commentary Diptych of Jean de Cellier c. 1475 Oil on wood, 25 x 15 cm \(each\) Musée du Louvre, Paris The Diptych of Jean de Cellier was painted for a herb and spice merchant married to Anna van de Woestyne, a niece of Lodewijk van Gruuthuse \(Louis de Bruges\). The work must have been painted after Anna's death - some time after 1482, when the couple purchased a tomb in Our Lady's Church - as Jan is shown alone in the right wing.
