# Book of Hours [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [MINIATURIST, Italian]() - Date: 1451-1500 - Technique: Manuscript \(Ms. 475\), 112 x 85 mm ## Commentary Book of Hours 1490s Manuscript \(Ms. 475\), 112 x 85 mm Biblioteca Trivulziana, Milan This tiny manuscript was made for Niccolò Casati whose coat of arms is represented on folio 1 with the initials 'NI CA'. The decoration consists of frames with candlesticks and jewels, five scenes with figures, and a decorated initials. It is by an artist who was active in Milan and called the 'Master of the Landriani Hours' after a Book of Hours made for Antonio Landriani, treasurer of Ludovico il Moro. One of the five scenes \(folio 70\) shows God the Father above a plaque bearing the heading to the Seven Penitential Psalms, with the figure of David praying below. On either side are double pilasters decorated in gold, painted to give the illusion that they, and David, are behind a torn and curling leaf on which the first lines of the text are written.
