## Commentary

This painting shows the influence of Anton Raphael Mengs, under whom von Maron trained and on whose mature style his own was entirely based. A &lt;A onclick=&#34;return OpenOther\(&#39;/html/m/mengs/holyfami.html&#39;\)&#34; HREF=&#34;/html/m/mengs/holyfami.html&#34;&gt;version of this painting&lt;/A&gt; painted en grisaille, now in the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, is attributed to Mengs.
