## Artwork

- Artist: [LUTMA, Johannes the Elder](<https://beta.wga.hu/artists/lutma-johannes-the-elder-r2f07ab162f19a8>)
- Date: 1601-1650
- Technique: Silver, parcel-gilt, height 24,2 cm

## Commentary

Lutma used two different techniques for a series of salt-cellars. The salt-well at the top was beaten from a single sheet of silver, and is unique. The figures below, the stem in the shape of a small boy, and the foot done in the auricular style, was cast with the lost wax technique in several versions as part of a larger series. By assembling stems and feet in different combinations he was able to produce a whole range of objects.
