## Commentary

Portrait of Marie J. Lafont-Porcher c. 1835 Oil on canvas, 100 x 81 cm Groeninge Museum, Bruges The sitter \(c. 1785 - c. 1867\) was a famous French singer and an associate of literary figures like Chateaubriand and Alexandre Dumas. She was married to the violinist Charles Lafont \(1781-1839\). This portrait stems from the end of the artist&#39;s career.
