## Commentary

Josiah was the King of Judah who was killed in the battle at Megiddo in 609 BC. Josiah&#39;s death is related in the Old Testament \(in both Kings and Chronicles\). Zanchi&#39;s tenebrist canvas is a work of the painter&#39;s early maturity revealing the influence of Luca Giordano and Giovanni Battista Langetti.
