## Commentary

Rusiñol&#39;s paintings were notable for their precision, their diffuse lighting, their concentration on the subject in hand. In Spain he made his name as the painter of Spanish gardens, some of which dated back to Moorish days. Minute brush-strokes conjured forth all the vibrant magnificence, life and freshness of the gardens of Valencia, Granada, Toledo or Seville; A Garden in Aranjuez is a beautiful example.
