## Commentary

Lautrec&#39;s father, Count Alphonse-Charles-Marie de Toulouse-Lautrec-Monfa \(1838-1913\) is described as a crotchety eccentric, who was mainly interested in hunting, and who seemed to love horses, dogs, and falcons more than people. When he realised that his weakling son would never equal him in riding, hunting, or soldiering, he turned away in disappointment.
