# Student with a Lesson-book [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [GREUZE, Jean-Baptiste]() - Date: 1751-1800 - Technique: Oil on canvas, 63 x 49 cm ## Commentary Back in Paris from Italy, Greuze seems to have come close temporarily to Chardin's handling of paint - seldom closer than in the fine Student \(Écolier qui étudie sa leçon\), which has the unforced sobriety of his best male portraits.
