## Commentary

This feminine \(caryatid\) herm produced in the Prague workshop of Ottavio Miseroni, combines two possible forms in the art of stonecutting, which played an important role in the work of Miseroni in Prague. On the one hand, it represents the idea of cutting round, plastic figures out of hard stones, such as chalcedony, and on the other hand, the principle of the 'commesso.' The relief commesso is characterized by the combination of various types and colours of stones \(in this case moss agate, carnelian, jasper, mother of pearl\) in a relief.
