# Portrait of Madame Mère [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [GÉRARD, François]() - Date: 1801-1850 - Technique: Oil on canvas, 210 x 129 cm ## Commentary This painting is one of the three compositional versions of the portrait which Gérard painted of Napoleon's mother, Maria-Letizia Ramolino. The large scale portrait was commissioned by Napoleon when he was First Consul.
