## Commentary

Montségur, Peyrepertuse, Quéribus, Puivert, the Cathar castles of southern France are relics of an age deeply shaken by the religious crises that afflicted the south of France during the 12th and 13th centuries. The castles are the symbols of the sufferings of a religious sect, the Cathars, ground down by the millstone of European history.
