## Commentary

This painting is a copy of Sebastiano del Piombo&#39;s mural painting in San Pietro in Montorio, Rome. It is one of the several replicas Venusti produced of this popular painting. This copy faithfully follows Sebastiano&#39;s mural, it is probably directly based on it. Venusti omitted only the two columns at the very front, thus directing stronger attention to the figural group.
