# The Painter Lucas van Leyden [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [DÜRER, Albrecht]() - Date: 1501-1550 - Technique: Silverpoint drawing on paper, 244 x 171 mm ## Commentary A silverpoint portrait, depicting the Dutchman in fine lines, testifies to the encounter of Dürer with the famous painter Lucas van Leyden during his journey to the Netherlands. The portrayed man, who soon became a friend of Dürer's, is gazing out of the picture alertly.
