# Landscape with a Waterfall [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [EVERDINGEN, Allaert van]() - Date: 1651-1700 - Technique: Oil on canvas, 119 x 104 cm ## Commentary Allaert van Everdingen was one of the several Dutch artists who went to Sweden and worked for the Swedish royalty or for the nobility and the rich burghers. He made several drawings during his stay in Scandinavia inspired by the Nordic wilderness with its impressive waterfalls, high rocks and wind-battered spruces. Back in Holland these drawings were a record of the various places he had visited. He specialized in depicting the wild and exotic Nordic nature in a romantic manner that anticipated nineteenth-century Romantics.
