# Portrait of Sir Robert Pigot [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [COTES, Francis]() - Date: 1751-1800 - Technique: Oil on canvas, 127 x 102 cm ## Commentary Portrait of Sir Robert Pigot c. 1765 Oil on canvas, 127 x 102 cm Private collection This painting is a three quarter length portrait of Sir Robert Pigot \(1720-1796\), in the uniform of the 38th Regiment, holding his tricorn hat in his right hand, and leaning on his left arm on a mound of earth, pointing to a fort in the background. Sir Robert Pigot joined the army as a young man, serving first in the 31st Regiment of Foot.
