## Commentary

In the equestrian statue of Frederick V of Denmark Saly managed to preserve a good deal of the king&#39;s lively, benevolent expression in the final monument, which is dignified enough as a re-working of the Marcus Aurelius, but which suffers from an insufficiently high pedestal and lack of the colossal scale needed to dominate an attractive but very wide and airy setting.
